Closed on November 26, 2020:
We have released an updated 9.5.6.2 version of Enterprise that incorporates the new version of the SDK, which addresses the issues noted below. No additional issues are outstanding so we are closing this thread at this time.
Update on November 23, 2020:
Aila has provided an updated SDK which we are currently integrating and testing.
Update on November 16, 2020:
Aila has notified us of a new issue affecting iPads that use the audio jack and Lightning port for communication with the scanner & iOS/iPadOS 14.2. Users have reported frequent crashing as a result of this incompatibility:
We are writing to inform you of an incompatibility with iOS/iPadOS 14.2 and Aila’s Interactive Kiosk for iPad 9.7” and iPad 10.2” running Aila SDK v1.9.11. Customers of these products are advised not to update to iOS/iPadOS 14.2 at this time.
Changes to a core communications library within iOS/iPadOS 14.2 have introduced this issue, which has further been identified as a bug within the Apple Development community. We will be issuing an update to our SDK that works around this issue in the coming weeks, but in the meantime, are advising that customers refrain from updating to iOS/iPadOS 14.2 to avoid a disruption in service.
We will be following up to provide an update as soon as we have an official SDK release date that resolves this issue.
Our team will integrate this SDK update as soon as it becomes available.
Update on November 5, 2020:
We have released a 9.5.6 version of Kiosk Pro Enterprise which includes the updated Aila v.1.9.11 SDK, which should address this issue. If you are working with a 3rd or 4th gen 12.9-inch scanner, Aila recommends updating the app and running it to update the scanner's firmware prior to updating to iOS 14. Per Aila, running the kiosk presentation for ~60 seconds should automatically update the firmware - once the firmware update is complete, the scanner's lights should flash multiple times.
Update on October 21, 2020:
Aila has delivered an update to their SDK which should fix this issue. We will be integrating this SDK update and issuing an updated version of Kiosk Pro Enterprise with this change in the near future.
Initial Report on September 23, 2020:
From Aila support:
"On September 16th, Apple released iOS 14 and iPadOS 14 to the general public. We are writing to notify you of an incompatibility between iPadOS14 and Aila’s Interactive Kiosk for the 12.9” iPad Pro (3rd Gen & 4th Gen), which affects communication between the two devices.
We are working to resolve this issue with our upcoming SDK release and associated firmware update. In the meantime, we are advising that affected customers do not update to iPadOS 14.
Installing iPadOS 14 in advance of our SDK update will prevent the proper operation of the kiosk and prevent Aila’s SDK update from installing.
We are working to make this update available as soon as possible.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience and we will keep our customers updated. "
On Kiosk Pro's end, we're waiting for the SDK update and will publish an update as soon as possible following receipt of that. In the meantime, we echo Aila's recommendation to not update to iOS/iPadOS 14 if you are using our Aila integration until this update is available.
